Whisker Printing Study

Other polar bear tracking methods include ear tagging, spray paint marking, lip tattooing, tranquilizing, body sampling and collaring. Whisker Printing provides a non-invasive form of mark and recapture monitoring. The method, first used in polar bear research by mammalogist, Dr. Jane Waterman, is used to track bears from year to year in order to determine estimated population size. ISAMR students are currently determining the validity and functionality of this method.
