Aug 10 - First Nester Sites!

In the morning we woke up to the delicious smell of bacon and eggs (and a bit of B.O.) We did yoga with Julie, and although her skills were not up to par with Carla’s, it did the trick. Isabelle had to repackage rusty flags into rusty containers (hope she doesn’t get tetanus.)

We started off the working day with our trusty quadrats on our backs and our probes in our hands. We finished site W-2 in no time, and after lunch continued on to W-1. While we were walking Elizabeth fell right on her butt, her attention not on the path and instead focused on the giant stunning caribou skull we stumbled upon. W-1 gave us a lovely gift: the birth of the “Fen Mama Walk.”

Later in the afternoon, those of us that weren’t on the shower list for the day took advantage of the lake near camp to wash our hair with our biodegradable shampoo. It was a great way to refresh after a hot day of sweating in the sun.

When we made it back to camp, Lizette shared a moving story and her knowledge on sewing mittens, arming 18 teenagers with heavy duty sewing needles. Dinner was delicious: turkey and stuffing! At the table we shared one thing we were grateful for and played the story game. (Note: Fen Mama was mentioned.) After dinner was down time and then hangout/bonding time in the tents. It was a great day!

 Leila and Isabelle signing off!
