August 7th - Presentation and Plans Shifting
Early in the morning we woke up to have a seminar with an indigenous speaker named Florence. During the seminar, we learned about the Saise Dene and their struggles and triumphs through history and Florence’s journey of reclaiming her past.
After the impressive speaker, we had planned to go paddle boarding with the belugas in the Hudson bay, but due to weather and other changes, we had to reschedule. Instead, we decided to hit another site. The site was a fen and was super wet, sometimes the probes never even made it to the permafrost. It was that deep! The site took us a while because of how challenging the terrain was, so after that we went home for a delicious dinner of Pirogies and sausage. The night did not end there though!
After dinner, we went into town to get a briefing on helicopter safety because we would be leaving the next morning for Nester one.
Once we were finished packing for Nester 1, we had brownies and ice cream around a campfire to say goodbye to Camp Nanuq and be ready for an early morning departure. Adios mis amigos- Jesse and Andrew.
