August 9th - Rocking with the Probes

Today, we woke up feeling super excited to get into the field after our first night in Wapusk. It was the closest we’ve been to polar bears yet! For breakfast, we ate the homemade bagels that we had all crafted in Julie’s cooking class the night before.

We then got packed and ready for a short walk into the field and getting to work. Long story short, we spent 3 hours on probing alone, due to how rocky it was at the site, with the rest of it being done decently quickly. We returned to a lunch of ramen noodles back at camp cooked by Jesse, Jude, and Julie!

We had a little free time where a caribou was spotted out near Nester, although we needed some strong binoculars to observe. Our second time in the field today was out at a fox den. When we got to our site we split into 6 groups of two and we did macro and micro and we had had one person collecting DNA with Carla. We finished the site and headed back to nester. When we got back we unpacked all of our field gear and made sure it was prepared for tomorrow.

Julie prepare some chips and dip for us and then we got free time. Andrew and Tyler created a new game called ragepong and it was just baseball but with ping pong equipment. We made two teams of five and we all played until supper was ready, thanks to Jesse and Jude we had chicken, potatos, and asparagus for supper. After supper Julie brought out dessert which was pudding with marshmallow fluff and wagon wheels, and we all ate outside on the deck. When we were all finished eating and washing our dishes we had a meeting about what we would be doing tomorrow, towards the end of the meeting Julie announced we would be having and isamr Olympics with five different teams and lots of games and challenges. When we found our teams we all got together and had a talk about who would be playing UNO, so the team had to chose to players and first team that won two games of uno would win the game.while in the middle of our game Julie spotted 3 polar bears, and as we were all looking at them the bears came closer to us and it was an amazing view. When our UNO game was finished we get ready for bed and headed to our tents getting a goons night sleep for a great day in the field tomorrow. Goodnight! - Clementine and Akeyla
