Caribou Sighting!

Today, we woke at 8:00 to rain. At 8:30, we went to breakfast, which was a breakfast scramble, cooked by Chef Jill. After preparing our field gear, we had a discussion in the classroom about what ISAMR is as an organization. We learned about our research, its importance, and how it impacts the ecosystem we are studying. It really put the work we do as ISAMR students into perspective. On camp management today, we had me (Ziva), Greg, Cherish, Fletcher, and Carla. We burned the garbage and cooked marshmallows over the trash fire. We also got some cleaning done around camp. I baked two incredible chocolate fudge cakes topped with buttercream icing dyed pink using frozen cranberries. Fletcher attempted muffins, but they ended up burnt. While the baking was happening, Greg and Cherish were working on putting together tents. After that, we prepared dinner and awaited the arrival of the others.

When we left, we headed north to a site that I (Jesse) had pinned. I helped with probing afterwards and helped the leaders of the day lead us south to a fox den. We had seen a caribou on the way to the fox den that we finished quickly and without difficulty. I finished teaching soil sampling, and we had begun heading back north to another den and finished it even quicker than the first. We moved quickly north back to camp and came back to great food (yet the muffins were burnt) and dry clothes.

This is Jesse and Ziva signing out.
