The 11 mile Trek

What’s up, Blog 😙! Today we woke up at 7:30 am and started the day off right with some delicious egg sandwiches (courtesy of Jill). We then packed our lunches and got field ready as per usual. Before hitting the field, Carla led us in some yoga and stretching to prep us for the long day to come…

During our walk to our first field site, we passed by some archaeological sites. We learned about the uses of Chert, and discussed the history of those on this land before us. As we kept walking, we noticed many caribou and beluga whale bones, and other small animals! Once we arrived at our first site, we sped through our data collection and ate some yummy lunches. We then headed to the beach ridge where we collected some firewood, and started a fire. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire, and took in the scenery around us. At the beach ridge, there were beautiful fossils, shells, rocks, and seaweed! After we finished up at the beach ridge, we had a treacherous journey through water, lichen, shrubs, and more, until we arrived at our first-ever fox den! We cared for our wet shoes and blistered feet, and took some good data! Once finished with all our data collection for the day, we started our walk back to Nester 1. Our student leader of the walk gave us a prompt, and we each talked with a partner about it as we walked. After each prompt, we rotated so we could talk to someone new!

After some time and the promise of warm spaghetti, we made it home. Camp management prepped us a delicious dinner and an astounding banana bread. We wound down after dinner and made our way to our tents for bed. Thanks for tuning in, until tomorrow!

xoxo,

Mia and Kammi
