First Site in Wapusk!
Wake-up was 8:30 AM, and everyone had time before our 9 AM breakfast to get up and get ready for the day. Breakfast ended up being pushed back due to our bagel-making activities from last night that needed to be completed. We got to have some amazing bagels for breakfast with so much variety! Afterwards, we went over our expectations for the day and what we would be doing in the field. Everyone packed lunches and worked on getting field ready. Once we were ready, we met on the porch of the Southgate and did a field gear check, during which we found we were missing a part of a probe we needed. Ryan made the part we needed from an old probe set while we tried to figure out where it might have been left. We used the part Ryan made and left through the Southgate to do sites W-02 and W-01. We walked for a little while towards W-02, and on the way saw some interesting Caribou skulls and antlers.
When we got to the site, everyone was split up into their groups, and most people were in their waders to make sure that they would stay dry while collecting the data. The data collection took close to 45 minutes, then those who finished early went up the hill to have their lunch. We packed up after a short supply check and headed to site W-01. The work went much faster there because we stayed in the same groups as the first site. After sampling that site, we walked back to Nester One where we all relaxed for 30 minutes and then had chili and bannock for supper.
The first official ISAMR Olympic game started, and we all played a game called salad bowl. Salad bowl is a three-tier charades game where green and blue teams tied for first, red team came in second, and yellow team came in third. After that, everyone got dessert, which was two birthday cakes to celebrate Jordan (one of our adult leaders) and his birthday! We had a little more downtime, and then everyone got ready for bed and got into their tents.
