Blog Update August 15

Today was the morning after our first night at camp Nanuq. I (Cate) woke up at 7 a.m. because I was going on the helicopter with Pablo and Henry to do extra sites and get more data. We got to the Hudson Bay Helicopters at around 8. We choppered around and did sites till about 4 p.m. The chopper rides were beautiful and we saw a fantastic collection of wildlife including 2 moose, 1 caribou, and 14 polar bears (most of which were moms with cubs)! While the three of us (plus Julie) did this, the rest of the group slept in, went into town to buy gifts, saw important indigenous monuments, and went beluga whale touring either by paddle board or by kayak! When I got back into town with Pablo, Henry, and Julie, the beluga tours were not quite over so we went to the monuments in Churchill that we had missed and also got milkshakes. The group finally regathered later that evening for dinner and a campfire where we all got old bay socks and told fun stories from the trip. After dinner and the fire we got ready for bed and did our evening chores. We all got to sleep pretty late because it was our last night together and we had fun staying up and talking
