August 19th -Devils Lake

We woke up in our Airbnb well rested, many of us glad to have had our first night of sleep in a proper bed in weeks. Although we had originally intended to fly home today, our flights had been cancelled, and we were now getting excited for a somewhat different adventure: driving to Devils Lake, North Dakota. After a delicious breakfast and much repacking, we all loaded onto a small bus that Julie had hired and began our journey.

We drove for about an hour before reaching the U.S. border, which we crossed with relative ease, and after a quick lunch of leftover Indian food and various snacks, we continued towards Devils Lake. We made one more quick stop for some Dairy Queen before arriving at our hotel and unloading our many bags.

Upon arriving in Devils Lake, we discovered that it was quite well known for fishing, so, after getting settled into our rooms, we walked to Walmart and bought a few fishing rods. We then walked down to a small dock near our hotel, where Andrew and Carla taught us the basics of fishing. We all attempted several casts; however, although we caught many weeds, we did not catch any fish. Admitting defeat, we hired two taxis to take us to the other side of the lake, where we had a delicious dinner at a lakeside restaurant.

After dinner, we decided to attempt fishing again, this time at a spot near the restaurant. This went significantly better, and Andrew managed to catch four fish, although none of the rest of us got any. As it began to get dark, we hired taxis again to take us back to the hotel and settled in for the night, excited about the prospect of getting home the next day.
